Garrett Ford

Who holds the Mountaineer record for most all-purpose yards gained in a single WVU football game?

In the Backyard Brawl of 1965,
Garrett Ford rushed for 192 yards and gained 356 total in all-purpose yardage in the wild 63-48 win over Pitt. The 356 all-purpose yards are to this day a WVU single-game record. Ford, a Washington, D.C. native and graduate of Maryland's DeMatha High School, played for one season (1969) in the NFL for the Denver Broncos. He was hired a year later in 1970 by then 'new' head coach Bobby Bowden to join the West Virginia staff as an assistant coach (he ran the scout team). After coaching for many years he later served the Mountaineer football program as WVU's Associate Athletic Director, concentrating on student/athlete academics.
